Intimacy with God

29 Dec

Galatians 4:6 states, “Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”

“Abba” is an aramaic word, the native speech of Jesus. Abba means Father, but in a colloquial intimate sense. The nearest equivalent in our language is “Daddy” or perhaps “Papa”. In Christ we are introduced into an unprecedented intimacy with God. Nowhere in the Old Testament do we find God addressed as Father, but Jesus always addresses God in this way in his prayers. The gift of “sonship” confers the privilege of the child to address the father with intimacy. I have always been intrigued by this word “Abba”. I think it is incredibly cool that we have been given this privilege to call God “Our Father”. How blessed we are to know that as we begin this new year, our heavenly Father is in total control and loves us like we were his only child! Our prayer for you is to have a safe and happy new year!

Blessings,

Jay
